Fire Alarm at the Ward Chili Cook Off
| Elder Brimhall and I eating dinner |
Hello Everyone!
Well, this week has been an interesting one, I will say that. Tuesday morning was Transfer Day, and I had to say good bye to Elder Smith. I am really going to miss him, but he is going to be doing some good work up there in Elgin. But, I did get to meet (once again) my new companion, Elder Brimhall.(He was in my district in Schaumburg) So, the shenanigans together began at the Stake center, as we spent a couple of hours trying to figure out how we were going to get his bike back to our apartment. Thankfully, some prepared Elders showed up with a bike rack, and we drafted them into helping us out. After that, we got together with YSA, and got our shopping out of the way, and then we went back so that Elder Brimhall could settle in. I then spent the next couple of hours teaching Elder Brimhall the ways and people of Naperville 1st. I actually learned a few new things about the area myself while doing that, so I suppose that is good.
The next day of couse, was District Meeting. I now have a lager District, as The Naperville 6th Elders got moved into my District, so it was kind of weird having a larger group to teach, but I liked that. I decided to do training with Technology. I had them watch a video, which was a training video that a Seventy put out, and we discussed that a bit. I then decided to have some fun with them. I had my District teach "Bob Sagget" and "Will"(My companion and I) over Messenger. I learned something about teaching someone during that role play. First off, it takes a lot longer than I thought. Secondly, it is a lot more useful for introducing a topic to someone, and getting their interest, rather than teaching a full lesson. That boosts my confidence in it a little bit. After that though, and some lunch, we went out to try and find people to teach, which did not go that well, but that happens (basically a theme for this week). But, the highlight of that evening was dropping off a vase of flowers that a member asked us to deliver at Sister Washburn house. That was super cool!
Thursday morning, we went to teach Ed again. The lesson went off on a few tangents, but we did introduce Family History to him, and got him some info on the Family History Center which was our goal with him. Now we just have to get him in on it. Then, we got together with the Tech Elders again, and make some real headway in the cleaning of the Storage Lockers. We actually cleaned one out...it was just the wrong one. There was one that was more expensive than the others, but we didn't know which one it was until after we finished cleaning out the one that was not that expensive. Oops. Oh well. That evening though, we went to teach Sister Washburn again, since she requested that we stop by specifically on that night, and we had a pretty good lesson with her.
Friday, we were movers. That afternoon, we went to help the Gillespie's prepare a bunch of things to be moved to another house. Guys, this house was HUGE! It is one of those million dollar homes that are all over Naperville, and this was my first time being in one. It was amazing! To give you somewhat of a picture, it had a basement, 2 floors, and an attic room, and had a total of 9 bathrooms. It was really cool to walk around. After that we did Weekly Planning, then we biked to the bottom of our area for a dinner. We then did probably one of the hardest 20 minute rides I have done in this area thus far back to the castle, to then move the things we had prepared to move into the garage, so that they could be accessed by actual movers when they came by.
Saturday really stunk. Well, not that morning. We went back to the castle, and we loaded a bunch of boxes onto a truck, and to the new house, and that was a lot of fun. It helped that there were a bunch of amazing donuts involved. After that though, I dropped. The hard ride, with the moving that we were doing, and the absolutely atrocious night's sleep that I had gotten the night before, crashed into me, and I could not move. It really sucked. After I had recovered a couple hours larer, we tried to get some work done, and then we went to the ward's Chili Cook Off. That was pretty fun! Elder Brimhall and I were two of the judges there, so we had to go around and try all 16 of the Chili dishes there, and I was very happy about that. After that, the fire alarm went off, so we all had to leave the building because the fire department showed up(and no, someone's extra spicy chili did not start a fire, an alarm was just acting up and decided to go off.).
Sunday was a pretty easy going day. We were at the church building for 7 1/2 hours because our ward holds Ward Council at 8:30am, and church doesn't start until 1pm. We usually get a ride back home, but nothing worked out, so we us stayed there. We got to hear a lot of good talks though, so that was cool. We also had a fun dinner that night, where I was throwing out way to many sarcastic comments, but I blame it on being more tired than humanly allowed. The family was laughing though, so I guess it was ok.
Well, that is about it for my week. We are right now basically dry when it comes to investigators, but Elder Brimhall and I are lookin to turn things around here in the next two weeks. I am also excited because Zone Conference is this Friday, and I hear that it is supposed to be a really good one! I hope y'all are having a most eventful and fantastic day wherever you are at!
