That has all been thrown out the window!
Hello Everyone!
How has everyone been doing? Good? Good. That is what I like to hear. Anyway, here we go!
Tuesday, we hit up the Silvio's in the morning, but they were a little busy, so we went out and did some finding instead. After Lunch, we went to help out one of or investigators with his back yard with Eric and Owen. What we were trying to do was level out his back patio. We were there for a couple of hours, and we though that all we had to do was raise up one side. When we finished though, we took a look at it, an the rest of the patio looked off. So, we planned to come back another day and work on the whole thing.
Wednesday started off with District Meeting, and for some reason that one felt like it took a lot longer than normal. That was weird. It was a pretty good one though, so that is ok. We then had to rush back to our apartment, then up to Roselle for a lesson with John. We met him at a Starbucks, and that lesson was weird. He was always telling us to tell us about our church, but he would constantly interrupt us and go off on a tangent. What can you do though. We were going to see Dorthy, but she canceled, so we just went and did our studies for the day. That evening, we went and talked with the Diaz's. They are an awesome younger couple in our ward, but they are moving back to California soon. Brother Diaz is a convert though of a couple of years, and we spent a lot of time answering questions that he had been sitting on, and some of them went a little deep, which was pretty fun, because we all got to study it a little together to answer it. I am going to miss that family.
Thursday we went around finding in the morning, and we ran into two people. First, we met Sharon, and we got her a Book of Mormon, and we hopefully will be seeing her this week. We then walked a little more, and we ran into Jose. That contact was interesting. He was getting ready to leave, and after he put all of his stuff into his car, he just stood there and looked at us expectantly. We took that opportunity, and we taught him about the Book of Mormon and he took one from us. That was pretty cool, and we are trying to get back with him now. His job has him on a crazy schedule, so it may be a little difficult to meet with him. Then it was Weekly Planning, and that took us into dinner. After that we went on Splits. I worked with Brother Nielson that evening. We mostly ran a bunch of stop by's. I think the best stop that we had though was the one that was not planned at all. We were just in the area, and we had time, so we decide to stop in on Maritza and Tony. Well, they were home, and we had a pretty cool talk on what the Atonement is. I enjoyed it.
Friday we were going to do some finding, but Barbara called us, so we decided to go and see her instead. After lunch, we ran into Fernando again, who was in in car again, and we just talked a little with him. We then went and talked with Ollienna and Company. There were 8 people there this time, and we went through the Restoration with them. We had to bring them back in a little sometimes, but we had a really good talk with all of them. We had a little bit of finding after that, and then we went out to the edge of our area for dinner.
Saturday we went to the Food Pantry and helped out again, and that was fun. It makes it great that the people that are there with us are all super happy. We had lunch with a member family after that, and then we went back to help Joe out with the YSA Elders. Man, that project is going to take a ton of time. The good news is that the tiles that were put down are all level, and that is what we were shooting for. We then had a dinner that we had to get to. To finish up the night, we went and saw Brother Valero, and we just talked with him about the families that he is going to be Ministering to, and about how the Book of Mormon is so important during these times.
Sunday was good. Jeremy came to church! That was super awesome! Also, the Lehndorfer kids brought their swim coach to church, and he is a cool dud. He is studying religion as his minor, and after church, we had a lunch with him and a bunch of members, and we all answered a bunch of questions that he had. That was fun. We came back to the Lehndorfer's a little later, and we had dinner with them, and we take a little bit about sharing the gospel, and the Book of Mormon. Good stuff there. We ended the night at the Santoyo's, and we just shared a small message with them, but it was good to do.
Well, there you have it! The first week in a new mission, and everything is going pretty well. I am super excited to meet my new Mission President, President Bingham, this coming Firday. He sounds like a really cool guy. And I just wast to say, that everything happens in the Lord's timing. He probably knew what I need both President Griffen and President Bingham, so that I could learn valuable lessons from both. I am just excited to see what the future holds! I hope y'all have a most excellent week wherever you are at!
Elder Jensen
From Elder Jensen's letter to his mom:
As for being in a new mission, it is interesting. So, you know how there is the Missionary Handbook (sometimes referred to as the White Bible) and it has all of the Mission rules in it. In the old mission, we also had another book that was full of a ton of extra rules, and that has all been thrown out the window, so it feels like things are way more relaxed here. There are still standards, of course, but you can sense a difference.
DUCKS! and one bunny.
